annual all star game held in the spring of 2005. The MCFL has
also announced its Most Valuable Player of the Year, Offensive
and Defensive MVP, Coach and Executive of the Year.
The league’s most
prestigious award annually is the Most Valuable Player of
the Year, and this year’s award went to quarterback
Robert Hunt of the Detroit Seminoles. Hunt was the highest-rated
quarterback in the league and finished the season on top of
most of the passing categories. During the regular season,
Hunt threw 14 touchdown passes to only 3 interceptions and
led his team to an undefeated regular season. Teammate Brian
Mallory, inside linebacker for the Seminoles was named Defensive
Player of the Year. Mallory led the Seminole defense in tackles
and finished the season 2nd in sacks and tackles for a loss.
Cleveland Lions wide receiver, Melvin Stewart was named the
league’s Offensive Player of the Year. Stewart was one
of the top receivers in the league, and he led the league
in receiving yards per game and touchdown receptions. He also
helped lead his team to victory in the MCFL Championship game
this season.
Long-time Louisville Bulls
coach and owner, Don Hillerich was recognized as the 2004
Coach of the Year. Hillerich’s team finished the regular
season with the third best record in the league and was recognized
as the team that made the biggest single season turnaround
from last year. The league’s top Executive was awarded
to John Armbruster of the Cleveland Lions. Armbruster’s
team, the Cleveland Lions won the MCFL Championship for the
second time since joining the league, and the team is one
of the oldest and most successful semi-pro football teams
in the country.
Pete White, Director of
League Statistics and Chairperson of the All Conference committee
is excited to announce that all team and player statistics
are updated and available on the league’s website (mcfl.org)
along with the all conference selections. “Our league
takes a lot of pride in our record keeping, statistics and
player recognition and at times this commitment slows down
the all star selection process as the league waited to finalize
all of the statistics from the regular season. Our league
is dedicated to maintaining the best historical records possible
and we apologize for not having this information available
sooner. On behalf of the league and its owners, we do take
great satisfaction in recognizing the athletic achievements
of our players, and we really appreciate the efforts they
put forth each week on the field” remarked White. White
went on to explain the process used to identify the league’s
top players. The league receives player nominations by position
from each team owner. This information is then consolidated
into a ballot by position, and each team votes on players
by position although each team is prohibited from voting on
players from their team. A mathematical model identifies the
highest-ranked players by position. The committee also tries
to ensure that all teams are appropriately recognized and
the selections are weighted based on the team’s success
each year.
